Honeybees have pollinated the blueberry fields in Washington County and we have just received and extracted our first 2008 honey. This honey comes to us from a local beekeeper and a friend.
Blueberry honey is a medium amber honey with a strong sweet flavor with earthy components. This is a great table honey as well as a honey cooks love to add to their recipes.
Maine just celebrated OPEN FARM DAY in July and once again Spring Break participated. We opened our sugarhouse up for the public to learn about beekeeping. We provided an active observation hive, a slide show, and several displays. We also opened our NATURE TRAIL, this trail goes through our 80 acre woodlot and one can see wild mushrooms and edible plants, toads, woodpeckers, birds, maybe a moose, different tree species, sugarbush pipeline, plus much much more. Once completed this trail system will be complete with signage and will be used for educational purposes.
We welcome group tours all year long by appointment. Our sugarhouse is handicap accessible, can accommodate bus tours and is equipped with a restroom.
Our sugarhouse gift shop will be expanding soon. Please watch online and in the local paper for our announcement. Hours will increase as well as our gift line. Sharon Porter will be joining us in late August so make sure you stop in to say hello to her. She has many years in the retail business and we look forward to having her on board.
