Recap: Maine Maple Sunday 2017

Maine Maple Sunday 2017: New Spicy Maple Syrup a Hot Favorite

By Sharyn Inzunza

Each spring, people all across Maine come out on the fourth Sunday in March to enjoy Maine Maple Sunday. For the 2017 Maine Maple Sunday, Spring Break Maple and Honey had a fun-filled weekend, including sharing our new spicy maple hot sauces.

This year, we had many visitors drop by to sample our maple products and learn about our maple syrup process.

We got to chat with many about how we make our maple syrup — from tapping the trees to boiling down the sap and turning it into golden maple syrup.

We also did our annual sugarbush tour. Moms, dads and kids enjoyed weaving between the trees (and snow) for a tree-tapping demonstration.

Every year for Maine Maple Sunday, Spring Break Maple and Honey features several fun products.

At the Maine Maple Sunday, 2015 we offered made-to-order maple sundaes. These were a huge hit with proceeds going to a local charity.

And in 2016, we offered visitors maple snickerdoodle cookies and maple butter with walnuts (which is delicious on hot waffles).

For Maine Maple Sunday, 2017, we shared our much-loved treats, such as maple taffy-on-the-snow and maple cotton candy. We also had some new maple products to share. We offered samples of maple salsa and maple-laced coffee for guests to sip on while touring the sugarhouse.

Additionally, we had homemade pumpkin maple fritters and spiced maple coated nuts. The highlight of the samplings, though, were our new maple syrup spicy blends.

Visitors sampled the maple-infused sweet-and-spicy hot sauces on crackers. And from many samplings and comments, it was the hottest of the hot sauces that people seemed to really like: the maple sriracha blend.

Everyone had a blast!

For us, after many busy weeks collecting sap and making syrup, it was wonderful to welcome visitors to Spring Break Maple and Honey for Maine Maple Sunday. We enjoyed talking with families and showing them how we make the maple products they love.

We can’t wait to see everyone again for next year’s Maine Maple Sunday.
